Mumia’s freedom is at stake in a court hearing on August 30th. With your help, we just might free him!

Rally To Free Mumia
Tuesday August 28th 4 pm
at 14th & Broadway, Oakland CA

A Philadelphia court now has before it the evidence which could lead to Mumia’s freedom.

The evidence shows that Ronald Castille, of the District Attorney’s office in 1982, intervened in the prosecution of Mumia for a crime he did not commit. Years later, Castille was a judge on the PA Supreme Court, where he sat in judgement over Mumia’s case, and ruled against Mumia in every appeal!

According to the US Supreme Court in the Williams ruling, this corrupt behavior was illegal!

But will the court rule to overturn all of Mumia’s negative appeals rulings?

If it does, Mumia would be free to appeal once again against his unfair conviction. If it does not, Mumia may be back to square one: imprisoned for life without the possibility for parole.

DA Krasner has released some, but not all, the evidence that could free Mumia.

Call DA Larry Krasner at (215) 686-8000 Tell him former DA Ron Castille violated Mumia’s constitutional rights and Krasner must not oppose Mumia’s legal petition.

An Injury To One Is An Injury To All!

Longshore workers shut down all ports on the West Coast to free Mumia in 1999. Oakland teachers conducted union-backed teach-ins on Mumia and the death penalty, unauthorized by the school administration, in the same year.

Now it is our turn!

Why do we demand freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal?

Mumia Abu-Jamal is innocent and framed!
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a journalist censored off the airwaves!
Mumia Abu-Jamal is victimized by cops, courts and politicians!
Mumia Abu-Jamal stands for all prisoners treated unjustly!
Courts have never treated Mumia fairly!

Here is a brief summary of the facts:

Mumia Abu-Jamal is a revolutionary journalist. A former member of the Black Panther Party and MOVE supporter, he fought racism and police brutality with outspoken radio reporting in Philadelphia in the 1970s. Known as the “voice of the voiceless,” he was an award-winning journalist. After his unjust conviction in 1982, he was banned from National Public Radio (NPR).

Mumia is a political prisoner. Because he acted and spoke out against police brutality and racism, Mumia was considered an enemy of the state. He was targeted by the FBI’s COINTELPRO disruption program from age 15. Publicly threatened by the notorious Mayor Frank Rizzo, he was well known to Philadelphia cops as a political enemy.

Mumia has never wavered from insisting on his innocence. Falsely accused of killing a police officer, Mumia was set up from the moment he was found at the scene. Police coerced vulnerable “witnesses” into saying they saw something they never did. A real witness was driven out of town for saying Mumia didn’t do it. Another man’s confession to the crime was suppressed.

Cops, courts and politicians conspired to send Mumia away, and keep him there. Starting with the “hanging judge” Sabo, who said he would “help ‘em fry the [racial epithet]” at Mumia’s trial, state and federal appeals courts, including the Supreme Court, have ignored law and precedent to keep Mumia behind bars.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is complicit in Mumia’s framing. All the cops on Mumia’s case were crooked, and the cop who was killed was likely talking to the FBI and killed by corrupt cops for that reason. The cops’ motive in framing Mumia was to silence him, and cover-up their own crimes.

The Philadelphia DA is still out to get Mumia. Under court order, DA Krasner has released to the court evidence that invalidates Mumia’s negative appeals rulings, and could free Mumia. A former DA, Ronald Castile was an important party to the false conviction of Mumia. But later, he sat in judgement over Mumia’s appeals as a judge on the PA Supreme Court. The US Supreme Court, in the Williams ruling, has outlawed this corrupt practice. But DA Krasner has not dug deep in the incriminating files, and is denying that the evidence released so far is conclusive under the Williams ruling.
